Where emerging DJs and producers get a forum with headlining DJs
Hey everyone,
Some of you might know me here as sugar-dandy-4202, but I’m actually Joseph Marr, the artist who created the Together sculpture in Berghain’s Klobar back in 2013.
and I’ve been thinking about something lately:
Where do up-and-coming DJs and producers and connoisseurs actually get the chance to sit down with the established DJs, hear their stories, ask questions and exchange ideas?
We have an incredible club scene in Berlin, but not so many opportunities for that kind of direct exchange.
That’s one of the reasons I’m starting UNFOLLOW.
For our first gathering, I’ll be hosting Daniel Wang, who played at the original Ostgut the predecessor of Berghain, NYC legend Mandel Turner who made productions with Frank Rogers and Berlin’s own Tom Kutsche who played with and invited so many legendary DJs to this city.
We’ll start with a conversation about their experiences, the evolution of dance music, DJ culture and what it means to build a life around music.
And here’s the part I’m excited about:
This isn’t going to be a panel where everyone just sits quietly and listens.
It’s an open forum. You’ll be able to ask questions, share thoughts and have an exchange with artists who’ve spent decades behind the decks and in the studio.
If you’re an emerging DJ or producer, a vinyl obsessive, or just someone who’s genuinely curious about dance music, I think this could be something special for you, but it’s a small venue and we’ll have limited capacity of 150 so be early.
And afterwards we dance!
Daniel will be joining the conversation, and Mandel, Tom and I will be DJing.
It’s happening at Mena in Kreuzberg, starting at 16:00. 25.10.26
I’m curious what people here think:
Would you be interested in more events in Berlin where you can actually meet and exchange ideas with established DJs and producers, rather than only hearing them play?
