I love sharing plates in the right company and Ethiopian and Eritrean cuisine seems built for sharing. Tear a piece off the injeera, use it to pinch up a small mouthful and pop it in your mouth.

This was great today. We went with the family sharing combo that also came with a couple of falafel wraps and soft drinks for £30 (me I in the last pic). Were it not for the tibs I think this would have been vegan.

I don’t really know much about all the elements in the dish, but my best effort isi n the first photo going clockwise from the purple at the top you have baked/roast beetroot, tibs (lamb I think), lentils, spinach, a spiced carrot and onion. In the middle there’s an earthy and spicy possibly lentil food. This was a little bit punchy and really nice.

The falafel wraps were great, fresh cooked falafel with an excellent crunch on the outside and delicious inside, served with a super simple dipping sauce of tahini and mayonnaise (I wasn’t expecting this but it really worked).

An aside – last time we went to Nags Head Market maybe a year or so ago we were able to buy food downstairs and eat it in the far more spacious upstairs seating area. It seems you’re not allowed to do that anymore. Downstairs food has to be eaten downstairs which is a shame as they could really do with a bit more seating for all the food traders.

Edit to add: as we were finishing up 3 youngish lads came in and got a big plate of injeera and beef to share. They offered us some but we were already stuffed, they suggested trying that next time. That was a sweet interaction.
